An excellent instruction:

Go into yourself and see how deep the place is from which your life flows.

-- Rainer Maria Rilke

Of course, it does take courage to do this. And perseverence.

Worth it, all the same.

Really. Trust me on this one.

  1. Ellie, have you blogged anywhere on what your meditation and prayer practices consist of? If you have, could you give me the link? If you haven't, could you maybe do that? I would really like to know how you "go into yourself", or indeed "go into God".

  2. I think maybe you've asked this before, Cathy? I apologize for not following through on that!

I don't think I've actually blogged about it in a particularly personal way before but I may have said some things earlier on this blog about methods and techniques. I'll look.

The idea of writing about that is somewhat daunting to contemplate. Maybe I could, as a stop gap measure, recommend a couple of books that influenced me strongly back in the early days. One is Christian Zen by William Johnston. Another is New Seeds of Contemplation by Thomas Merton.

  3. hi Ellie, thanks for the recommended books. I haven't asked you about that before. I am very curious about what other people do re prayer and meditation.

  4. (PS I wasn't meaning to imply that I don't know how to meditate per se - I just like to hear about what others do.)
